By Aaron Wagner
In 1998, two of the biggest acts in country music came together on a song that would spearhead both acts’ next albums.
Long time friends Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn went out on tour together during 1997 and it was during this time that the idea for collaborating on a song like “If You See Him/If You See Her” was born.
The song was written by Terry McBride (“Play Something Country”, “Proud of the House We Built”), Jennifer Kimball (“I Can Love You Like That”), and Tommy Lee James (“She’s My Kind of Rain”).
There was a little hiccup with the song as Reba and Brooks & Dunn were on competing labels, both wanting the song to be under their flagship artist. A compromise was struck as the song appeared on both albums with the two record labels jointly promoting the song. Reba’s album would be called If You See Him while Brooks & Dunn’s album was called If You See Her.
The song reached the top of the charts where it stayed at #1 for two weeks.
