New in Nash: This Week in New Music

By Aaron Wagner

A loaded week of new music, especially for rising artists. Let’s dive in.

Blake Shelton’s newest release “Minimum Wage” caused some faux outrage in the week’s leading up to its release, but overall the song is really catchy and will be a radio hit for him. Devin Dawson continues to make good music, releasing a six song EP titled The Pink Slip EP. An early favorite on the project is “He Loved Her.”

I’m officially on the Kip Moore bandwagon as of his album last year and he plans to release a deluxe version, which includes his new release this week “How High.” We often use the phrase “the collaboration I never knew we needed” and it couldn’t be truer this week with the Hailey Whitters and Jordan Davis collab. “The Ride” is so damn good and somehow works really well with both of their styles.

Speaking of collabs, Maren Morris teams up with Canadian singer-songwriter JP Saxe (“If The World Was Ending”) on “Line By Line” in a song that showcases both artists smooth vocals. Another collab is FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Tim McGraw spreading positive vibes on “Undivided.” Personally I think these type of songs are force fed to us and while that might be the case I love Tyler and Tim’s voice together and the production on this one is perfect for them.

It’s been awhile since we’ve gotten new music from Hunter Hayes but alas, this is the week with the release of “The One That Got Away.” An interesting song this week is another collaboration as Darius Rucker sings with the Zambia-born artist Portia Clark. “Ready To Fall” is just a song featuring two great vocalists.

Favorite Songs from Country Risers:

“Are We” – Taylor Acorn: We’ve been huge fans of Taylor for years and she’s absolutely killing it as of late, really finding her sound. This new one from her this week is the catchiest thing you’ll hear all week, having you hit repeat. I’m so excited for more and more country listeners to introduce themselves to Taylor, especially if she keeps releasing jams like this.

“Little One” – Brooke Lynn: There are some songs that just stand out and hit your heart differently. Brooke’s new song “Little One” did that to me this week. I absolutely love the concept of the song as she sings about her younger brother, loving him, and the special brother-sister bond. It’s a topic that’s rarely covered in songs, but I think she nailed it. This song is a must listen. Play close attention to the heartfelt lyrics.

“Dirt Poor Rich” – AJ Kross: I can relate to a lot of country songs, but this song is just special as it takes me back to my younger days, growing up on a farm, hanging around with my high school buddies, never truly knowing how good we were living. AJ delivers a great performance on the song as you get the sense that this song is really important to him. The song was also written by a trio of hit songwriters in Chris Thompkins (“Before He Cheats”), Josh Kear (“Need You Now”), and Mark Irwin (“Highway Don’t Care”).
