New In Nash: This Week In New Music

By Aaron Wagner

I’m officially on the Morgan Wallen hype train. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed most of his releases and this week he dropped 3 new songs with “Still Goin Down”, “Livin’ the Dream”, and “Somebody’s Problem.” The latter is my favorite song of his to date and absolutely should be his next radio single.

A fun collab this week is Chris Young and Kane Brown joining up on “Famous Friends.” The song is a fun angle on that phrase as they sing about small town folks as their voices actually work really well together. Devin Dawson continues cranking out fantastic songs in anticipation of his new EP in 2021. “He Loved Her” is a feel good song out this week.

Lee Brice is out with his new album Hey World this week including many phenomenal soulful songs, including my personal favorite “Atta Boy.” Then we have Lady A releasing a deluxe album for Ocean, including a collaboration with Thomas Rhett on a song honoring musical legends called “Heroes.”

We should’ve suspected it was only a matter of time before friends Russell Dickerson and Florida Georgia Line teamed up on a collab. This week we get that with “It’s About Time” which will appear on RD’s album in December. 90s country star Collin Raye released a new album this week with Scars, including the heartbreaker of a song “I’ve Got a Lot to Drink About.”

My 3 Favorite Songs from Country Risers:

“Girls Call the Shots” – Hannah Dasher: There are some songs that are just perfection — the lyrics, the production, the vocals. That’s this song. Hannah sings about a fun concept that at the end of the day it’s the girls who call the shots, that even when guys think they’re doing something, it’s to impress the girl. I would LOVE for this song to get a chance at country radio because it’s that good.

“Hot Beer” – Dillon Carmichael: When you see that two of the songwriters on this song are Ashley Gorley and HARDY you know it’s going to be great. This song has all the signs of an anthem that you crank up loud in your favorite bar to sing along. It’s so much fun.

“Pirates Tonight” – Nikita Karmen: Nikita has been working with Walker Hayes a lot lately (co-writer and producer on this song) and you can definitely notice in a lot of her recent releases. And that’s a great thing because this song is so dang catchy. Combine that with Nikita’s beautiful voice and you have something really special. Plus if a clever song title like “Pirates Tonight” doesn’t catch your interest, there’s something wrong with you.
