New In Nash: This Week in New Music

By Aaron Wagner

Holy shit was there a lot of new music this week. It was an absolutely incredible weekend of new music from the biggest stars in country music and the hottest names that are on their way to stardom.

Lindsay Ell dropped her new album heart theory and she went to another level with this project. “body language of a breakup” is one of my early favorites. The other album that was highly anticipated this week was Caylee Hammack’s If It Wasn’t For You. Caylee is going to be a massive star and was joined by Ashley McBryde and Tenille Townes as the three show off their harmonies on “Mean Something.”

RaeLynn released a six-song EP in Baytown full of some great songs, but “Judgin’ To Jesus” just screams RaeLynn to me. Tim McGraw’s new album comes out this Friday and if the rest of the album is like what he’s put out so far, like this week’s release “7500 OBO”, we are in for an absolute treat.

Another one of my favorites this week comes from Devin Dawson. “I Got a Truck” is a slightly different vibe than his debut album but it’s such a fit. Fans basically bullied and demanded Morgan Wallen into releasing “7 Summers” and you can’t really blame them. Another hit in the making for Morgan. Kane Brown released an EP this week that included some collaborations, but the standout song on his project is “Worship You.” I can see that one becoming a big ole hit for him and potential to become a wedding song.

Country name stays Trace Adkins and Clay Walker each put out a new song this week. Adkin’s “Just the Way We Do It” has him singing about living life a little different than people would deem appropriate. Walker’s “Need a Bar Sometimes” has the makings of being a big success on country radio as it has a slightly modern country vibe.

Eric Paslay is also out with a new album this week. Nice Guy has a collection of songs that are smooth, mid-tempos or ballads. “Just Once” is my favorite on the project so far.

Parker McCollum currently has a Top-20 song in “Pretty Heart” but released a new one this week to keep his rising star shining bright with “Young Man’s Blues.” One of the best young vocalists, Rachel Wammack, shows off her impressive range in “What He Does” this week. Kolby Cooper also released an EP that is blowing up on social media, including the irresistibly honest “2 Words.” It’s a must listen that will leave you smiling or laughing.

Drew Parker’s “While You’re Gone” is a heart-filled song about two people who are in love but have different dreams. One of my favorite “jams” this week is the new one from Matt Ferranti. “Pick Up” is one of those tunes that just get stuck in your head, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Kalsey Kulyk has one of the smoothest voices amongst country risers and she further proves it this week with “Who I Was.”

My 3 Favorite Songs from Country Risers:

“Hate That I Need You” – Raquel Cole: Raquel released a three-song EP this week and this is the song that jumped out to me. Full of emotional feelings that she pours out in the song, her voice is so dang pure on this ballad. This girl can absolutely sing and I’m so excited to see what her future holds.

“Somebody” – Alex Stern: When it comes to the next generation of country artists, I don’t there are many that are as vulnerable in their songs than Alex. Her new one this week has her looking inward and realizing her mistakes, but then takes that and puts those feelings to lyrics. Her delivery helps cement the authenticity of the lyrics.

“Never Gonna Break Up” – Sarah Allison Turner: This new song has her diving head first into love as many of us do. Sarah has one of those good country voices that just fits and this song has her voice shine through. I don’t know if this will ever hit radio, but I think it would be successful on country radio.
