Throwback Jam: Tim and Faith’s “It’s Your Love”

By Aaron Wagner

In 1997, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill came together for their first duet with “It’s Your Love.”

The song was a monster success. It reached the top of the Billboard charts in just 5 weeks, where it stayed at #1 for 6 weeks.

Aside from chart success, the song won numerous awards in country music that year. The song cleaned up at the ACM Awards winning Single of the Year, Song of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. They also won a CMA Award for Vocal Event of the Year.

The hit song was written by Stephony Smith (“Big Star”, “How Was I To Know”, “Yes!”). She tells the story that she wrote it in about 30 minutes while watching David Letterman in the background. Initially it was pitched around town as a song for a female singer to record, but it kept getting turned down.

Then Tim heard it.

Tim and Faith were dating and on tour together at the time the song was pitched to Tim and he realized how special it was right away. He also knew that he had to have Faith sing on it with him.

Thanks goodness he did because it makes the song even more authentically romantic.

Check out the music video which features a pregnant Faith Hill with their first child:

20+ years later the song is just as special and the two are just as in love as they were when the song came out.
