Brad Paisley definitely knows how to sing a care-free, fun loving song. From Alcohol to Celebrity nothing ever seems too far fetched for Brad. However he can easily pull at the heart strings, and there is no better example of that than his 2005 number one song, “When I Get Where I’m Going.”
Written by George Teren and Rivers Rutherford, the song is taken to the next level thanks to Dolly Parton lending her harmonies. This went on to be her 25th number one. It’s no surprise that the song and the video went on to clean up at the award shows, winning 2 ACMs for Video of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year, and also wining the CMA for Vocal Event of the Year.
The video is a montage of people holding photos of their loved ones who have passed away, people they look forward to seeing again ‘when they get where they’re going.” There are some familiar faces in the video with John Carter Cash holding a photo of his parents, Johnny Cash and June Carter, Michael Reagan with a photo of his dad, president Ronald Reagan, and Teresa Earnheardt with a portrait of her husband Dale Earnheardt.
The power of this song and the different lens it puts on death and losing a love one is what makes it unique and special. The voices of Dolly and Brad combine to create a performance that will leave you with goosebumps and a reminder the important things in life.
