New In Nash: This Week in New Music

By Aaron Wagner

Hope y’all enjoyed celebrating America this July 4th weekend. You might have dove into the new songs released this weekend but if not, we have you covered.

We get new music from country heavy hitter Chris Young. Written by talented young songwriters Greylan James and Matt Roy, “If That Ain’t God” is one of those songs that will put a smile on your face and confirm your faith. Everything Mitchell Tenpenny releases is straight up phenomenal. There’s just something so special about his voice. “Broken Up” is his latest this week as he can’t get over a girl. A must add.

“Seaside” is a sexy summer jam from Billy Currington. It’s one of those songs that just has him written all over it. One of my favorite new songs this week comes from RaeLynn. “Me About Me” is probably my favorite song that she’s ever released. It’s a brutally honest song about a one way road in a relationship.

Old Dominion continues to sprinkle in new tracks during quarantine. This week it’s the beachy “Everything to Lose.” Another new release with fun summer vibes this week is from Eric Paslay. The talented singer-songwriter released “Boat in a Bottle.”

The song I was most looking forward to this week was a collaboration between Cassadee Pope and Leaving Austin, a rising group from California. “American Avenue” is a catchy and relatable song that features nice harmonies from Pope and the group. Pope also released her own new song this week with “Built This House” as she gears up for an upcoming EP or album release.

Craig Campbell dropped a country anthem this week in “Flyin’ My Country Flag.” It’s appropriately the type of song you’d expect to hear cranked loud back in the woods or out on the water. Even though Ingrid Andress just released an album in April, she released a fun and peppy summer jam with “Waste of Lime.”

My 3 Favorite Songs From Country Risers:

“Happy Hour” – Sarahbeth Taite: This is such a cleverly written song by Taite, Jake Rose, and Catt Gravitt (“Alone With You”, “Why Ya Wanna”). Singing about trying to put on a fake smile, Sarahbeth has a really great song on her hands with this new release.

“Long Night Letting Go” – Jaden Hamilton: Singing about trying to get someone and the memories with them out of your head, Jaden has such a deep and rich country voice. It’s not an overly produced song, rather it lets the songwriting and his voice carry the song.

“Her Heart” – Ian McConnell: Ian is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists in country music. This new song from him this week is about as honest of a song as you can get. He sings about having to break a girls heart and you can just sense in his voice, how difficult it was to do that.
