Throwback Jam: Joe Diffie’s “Bigger Than The Beatles”

By Emily Wagner

The country music world lost one of its biggest voices this week, most prevalent in the early to mid 90’s, Joe Diffie passed away on Sunday, March 29th. So it seems most appropriate to honor him with this week’s throwback song.

“Bigger Than The Beatles” would be Diffie’s last number one song, released back in 1995. The lighthearted love story shares how an inspiring singer, singing at a hotel bar and his actress inspiring girlfriend who waits tables, have a love that is ‘Bigger than the Beatles.’ The love is compared to other big names, like The Eagles and The Rolling Stones – none of which can compare to the love these two have for each other.

Written by Jeb Stuart Anderson (I Like It, I Love It)and Steve Dukes, “Bigger Than The Beatles” would reach the top spot on the charts that some of his now more recognizable songs, like “John Deere Green” and “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)” never attained.

So take a minute to toast a country legend and take in the nostalgia that this song brings on.
